Children

I provide treatment for children who present with a wide range of emotional and behavioral concerns such as anxiety, low self-esteem, trauma, depression, ADHD, learning disabilities, anger, and grief. I create a space for them to think and feel emotions that are sometimes too intense to manage alone. I help them to understand their feelings, regulate their emotions, and learn to express them in different and more appropriate ways.

In my work with children, I use a strength-based approach, meaning that we focus on discovering what the child believes helps him or her and learning how to do more of it. In addition, I also employ “play therapy” which helps them to communicate feelings and thoughts, relieve stress, reenact troubles, and learn to create adaptive coping strategies. Since play is fun, it is easier for children to really confront what is bothering them.

Adolescents

Adolescence is a very challenging time for both parents and the teens. During this time of physical, emotional, and moral development, adolescents are often presented with difficult choices. Struggles with finding or developing one’s identity, receiving different messages from their peers, parents, the media, etc., can be confusing and overwhelming, and may result in a number of problems that impact their psychological well-being.

Therapy can assist teens in dealing with these difficulties by offering them a supportive and accepting space to understand and make sense of it all. In addition to traditional therapy, I also enjoy using Expressive Art Therapy which is a very unique way of exploring one’s feelings and resolving challenges. In Expressive Art Therapy, one may use drawing, writing, music, collage, sculpting, and other expressive means to communicate and express oneself.

I treat a wide range of issues impacting adolescents including:

Low self esteem
Body image concerns
Depression and Anxiety
Relational problems
Communication problems
Loneliness
Grief and loss
